Beta v0.1.610 — Final Beta Candidate

This is the latest Android beta build for Exotic Keeper. It includes major improvements to reports, notifications, image handling, accessibility, and data backup.

The downloaded ZIP contains the Android APK. Extract the ZIP, then open the APK file on your Android device to install it.

Android may require you to allow installation from your browser, Google Drive, or file manager. The APK is zipped because some web hosts block direct APK downloads.

If Exotic Keeper is already installed, Android should ask whether you want to update the existing app. Updating should preserve your local data as long as you do not uninstall the previous version first.

Although backup and restore are now available, beta testers should create a complete ZIP backup before installing an update.

What Is New in the Final Beta?

Complete Reports System

• Animal Summary Report with profile information, recent records, record counts, and latest weight
• Feeding Report with date filtering, feeding frequency, food categories, food usage, and appetite history
• Weight Report with first, latest, highest, lowest, and average weight
• Weight Report calculates net change and percentage change
• Health Report with category summaries, attached-image counts, and full health history
• Shed Report with shed types, humidity, intervals between sheds, and full shed history
• Habitat Report with temperature and humidity summaries, substrate information, and habitat history
• Lighting and Bulb Report with active bulbs, overdue replacements, upcoming replacements, and UV measurements
• PDF export available for every major report
• PDF filenames include the animal name and generation date

Backup and Data Protection

• Complete ZIP backup system added
• ZIP backups include animal records, logs, reminders, settings, custom options, and images
• ZIP backups can be saved to Google Drive or another storage provider
• ZIP restore rebuilds image paths and restores photos on the current device
• Legacy JSON backups remain supported
• Full Data Export is available directly from the Reports Center
• Restore automatically reschedules pending reminder notifications

Reminder Notifications

• Android notification support added
• Reminder notifications work while the app is closed
• New reminders automatically schedule notifications
• Editing a reminder automatically reschedules its notification
• Completing or deleting a reminder cancels its notification
• Repeating reminders schedule their next occurrence after completion
• Users can enable or disable notifications in Settings
• Users can select their preferred daily notification time
• Pending reminders are rescheduled when notification settings change
• A test-notification option is available in Settings

Camera and Image Improvements

• Photos can now be taken directly with the device camera
• Existing photos can still be selected from the gallery
• Camera and gallery choices are available throughout the app
• Animal, feeding, health, habitat, lighting, measurement, and shed records support images
• Animal images use a shared image-management system
• Users can change the animal profile image
• Users can remove attached images
• Missing or damaged image files display a fallback indicator instead of crashing the screen

Weight Tracking Improvements

• Weight-chart points are now spaced according to the actual dates of the entries
• Entries one month apart display farther apart than entries one week apart
• The chart automatically adjusts its date-label interval as the history grows
• The vertical axis automatically scales around the recorded weight range
• Charts support long-term records covering months or years

Shed Tracking

• Shed tracking added as a complete animal log
• Records can include shed type, body area, humidity, notes, date, and images
• Shed records are included in Animal Summary Reports
• A dedicated Shed Report summarizes frequency, intervals, types, and humidity

Accessibility and Layout

• Home screen updated to remain usable with enlarged Android font and display settings
• Important content can be scrolled when text becomes larger
• Shared image controls use larger touch-friendly menus
• Reports and forms use scrollable layouts to improve support for smaller screens and foldable devices

Core Animal Records

• Animal profiles with multiple photos and a selectable profile image
• Species/type, category, morph/genetics, traits/hets, breeder/source, and notes
• Structured birth or hatch dates using exact date, month/year, year only, or unknown
• Estimated birth or hatch date support
• Calculated animal age when birth information is available
• Feeding logs with food category, item, manufacturer/source, amount, appetite response, notes, and images
• Weight logs with multiple units, notes, charts, and trend reports
• Health logs for general notes, medication, vet visits, injuries, and behavior
• Habitat logs with basking, warm-side, and cool-side temperatures
• Humidity, substrate, lighting, UV status, notes, and images in habitat entries
• Shed logs with humidity, body area, notes, and images

Lighting and UV Tracking

• Bulb records with nickname, type, manufacturer, model, and installation date
• Replacement intervals and calculated replacement due dates
• Active and inactive bulb tracking
• Receipt, warranty, and product images
• Automatic bulb replacement reminders
• UVA and UVB measurement logs
• Measurement distance, units, meter used, notes, and images
• UV measurement history and charts
• Lighting Report identifies overdue bulbs and bulbs due within 30 days

Reminders and Dashboard

• Reminder system with overdue, due-today, upcoming, and completed task tracking
• Overdue reminders display in red
• Due-today reminders display separately using an orange warning color
• Repeating reminders preserve completed reminder history
• Monthly reminders advance by calendar month
• Automatic notifications at the selected daily reminder time
• Dashboard includes quick statistics, needs-attention items, upcoming reminders, recent feedings, and recent weights
• Dashboard cards support tap-through navigation to related records

Custom Options and Community

• Custom dropdown framework supports user-added options
• Custom values are stored locally and included in backups
• Beta Feedback button is available on the home screen
• Discord button provides access to the Exotic Keeper testing community
• Feedback email opens with the beta version included in the subject line

Known Beta Notes

• This remains beta software and may contain undiscovered bugs.
• Primary app data is stored locally on the device.
• Uninstalling the app removes locally stored app data unless a backup has been created.
• Create a ZIP backup before uninstalling the app, resetting the device, or installing a major update.
• Notification delivery may occur slightly after the selected time because Android may delay inexact notifications to conserve battery.
• Some Android devices may apply additional battery restrictions that affect background notifications.
• Cloud synchronization and shared multi-user accounts are planned future features.
• User accounts and subscription features are not included in this beta.
• The application is currently being prepared for eventual Google Play release.

Recommended Update Steps

1. Open the currently installed version of Exotic Keeper.
2. Go to Settings and select Export Backup.
3. Save the ZIP backup somewhere safe, such as Google Drive.
4. Download and extract beta1-802.zip.
5. Open the APK file.
6. Choose Update when Android prompts you.
7. Do not uninstall the previous version before updating.
8. Open the updated app and confirm that your animals and records are present.
